The longest ridge course in the Basler Jura

The Gerstelflue is an impressive more than one kilometer long ridge. The entire ridge from the castle ruin of Waldenburg  is very rarely climbed as not of interest due to loose rock and very grassy passages.  For climbers the interesting part starts at P.810. On the way to the top some sportclimbing routes can be found on the south side. Especially the Bohrhakenwändli with routes in the range 6c+ - 7b+ has to be mentioned as a perfect piece of limestone rock! Beside the ridge there is the Drachenloch (Dragon hole) an amazing route in the 4th grade. You start on the sunny south side to climb through the hole and end up in the shady north side almost on the top of the ridge. We recommend highly combining both routes. From the P.810 both routes can be climbed in 3 hours to the end. Please don’t forget to bring with you some slings, friends and nuts. Please respect the seasonal prohibition of some sectors due to brood of birds. The ridge is often climbed as it is the longest in the Basle region. Some more ridges we recommend are the Arête de Raimeux and Les Sommêtres in the French speaking part of Switzerland but not more than 1 and a half hours drive from Basle.
